2010 Golf Honoree
Tom King, DDS
Tom King was born on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. He attended Mendel Catholic High School and then went on to the University of Illinois at the Chicago Circle where he was in the first graduating class (1967). He attended the University of Illinois College of Dentistry at the Medical Center and graduated in 1971, then served two years in the Army.
In 1973, Tom returned to the south side of Chicago and started his practice in general dentistry. That same year he joined the faculty at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry and taught part-time in the Department of Operative Dentistry for the next 18 years. After retiring from teaching he joined the UIC Dental Alumni Board. He was the president of the board in 2003. He helped start the alumni golf outing which is now in its 19th year. He has been active in dental organizations, as a member of the executive council for the American Prosthodontic Society, a past president of the Englewood Branch of the Chicago Dental Society and the program chairman of the 2007 Midwinter Meeting.
In 1969 Tom married Maureen, who he met in high school, and they had two sons and 2 daughters. Their sons are both graduates of the UIC College of Dentistry. Unfortunately, neither works with him, one is a DDS/MD oral surgeon in Dubuque, Iowa and the youngest is an endodontic specialist in Dixon, IL. Their oldest daughter is an intensive care nurse and the youngest daughter is a graduate of the UIC College of Pharmacy. The best gifts they have received from their children are their eight delightful grandchildren.
Tom is now practicing dentistry in a somewhat part-time schedule. He is playing a lot of golf, traveling and really enjoys spending time with the grandchildren.
Tom would also like to say that it has been an honor and a privilege to know Dr. Scaramella for the past 30+ years.
